< img src ="https://runeatrepeat.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Boston-Marathon-Virtual-5K8-650x650.png "alt=""> I ran the Boston Athletic Association Virtual 5K today! And it’s Marathon Monday, well it’s technically 5K Monday … however this is typically the day of the Boston Marathon race. Yes, in a very long standing tradition the race is on a Monday– Patriots’ Day actually (up until it was cancelled

in 2015 and postponed till October this year). I wish I was in Boston running the marathon today! There is absolutely nothing like the last mile of the Boston Marathon. The cheering crowds along the 26.2 mile course are amazing. The buzz in the city during race weekend is magic. Maybe that’s why the Boston Marathon mascot is a unicorn!!

I feel so fortunate to have run the Boston Marathon with the Hyland’s Group. I have actually run a great deal of marathons and half marathons and this one really measures up to all the buzz.

And after that I had the fantastic opportunity to host their video series following the training journey of the last group of runners. Every one of them were gifted runners stabilizing their professions in the medical field and first responders. Boston Marathon Virtual 5KBoston Marathon Virtual 5K

The range running industry, specifically in person race companies have actually been struck really hard by the pandemic. I know companies have actually failed or needed to temporarily close considering that face to face races weren’t occurring. While a few companies that arrange virtual races got on it right away and made a ton of money from virtual runs, most big city marathons were cancelled and lost money that would usually be utilized for the following year’s race. The BAA and other comparable race organizations weren’t in the business of organizing virtual races so they were at a disadvantage. Plus, their usual target market prefers in person marathons– so they couldn’t be sure it runners would want to run a virtual race.

I get it, I 1000% choose in person races! But that wasn’t a choice, so I registered for the BAA Virtual 5K and ran it on the day that’s normally Boston Marathon Monday.

I’m not a huge fan of 5K runs and much prefer to run a half marathon or full marathon over a much shorter range, but this was an excellent knowing experience! I had not paced myself for a 5K in … well, ever! I have actually never ever paced myself to run a fast 5K because the ones I have actually done in the past are Run Disney races completely on costume and simply for enjoyable.

So this morning I woke up way prematurely (not to run, my body just got up before 4am and I could not fall back asleep) and made a 5K playlist. Then, when the sun was up … I went out the door for my 5K.

I chose to do a path that would not have any street lights, but it did have a few reverse and small hills. Oh, and a spider web that I went through a quarter mile from the surface!!! Dang it! However I kept going because– what was I going to do even if I stopped? I didn’t have anything to clean it off with. I simply hoped it didn’t included a spider!!

BAA Virtual 5K surface time– 26:17

I should’ve run faster but I was: afraid of burning out so I kept it conservative for the first half. I simply started doing speed exercises once again just recently and am still building it back up.

Overall, I more than happy I did it and now have a better idea of where my fitness is right now. Which is great details considering that I likewise signed up to run the Virtual Boston Marathon in October!! Time to get serious.

And because it’s Marathon Monday I’ve loved seeing lots of Boston Marathon pictures from other runners on Instagram. I’ve composed a lot of wrap-ups and suggestions about training and the race so despite the fact that I wish to write a long love letter to the Boston Marathon I’ll spare you my significant declaration of undying love.

Rather, I recommend you listen to Taylor Swift’s Last American Dynasty or something else to set the state of mind and scroll through some of my preferred Boston Marathon photos …

If anybody can bring running back it’s Dave McGillivray(Boston Marathon Race Director). This is before the Boston 5K with the Hyland’s Group Runners. We were incredibly excited to begin race weekend.

I ran the Boston 5K in 2019 and fulfilled Kathrine

Switzer at the finish line. She was the first female to run the Boston Marathon– and she did it before they enabled women to enter. She signed up with her very first preliminary and just went all out!! (It was 1967.) Among the race officials in fact attempted to grab her to pull her off the course!!?! Astounding.

( But there are images in case you truly don’t believe.) She finished although– she was not welcome there and somebody in fact tried to stop her. That must’ve been such a mind-F. YOU can overcome challenges too. Do not let anybody get in your method. Get out of your own method. Be unstoppable.
